A Little Catching Up To Do!!

Ok, OK! Sorry about the lapse in postings. Working full-time and trying to be a spectacular mother during the holidays is a bit overwhelming and can make your priorities come into clear focus!

We had an incredible holiday season...really one for the books! We did everything on my holiday to-do list except go to the Nutcracker Ballet. Leahness was ~surprise!~ Dorothy for Halloween. We made a Turducken for Thanksgiving (yes, it's worth all the work!), and Santa was generous. I came up with the phrase, "Boo, Gobble-Gobble, Ho-Ho, Happy New Year" quite a few years ago when I really started to realize what a whirlwind life is from the 1st of October to the Ball-drop on the 31st of December. This is only amplified by the nuisance that is having a career!

Now, to update everyone on Leahness' condition. I'm very happy to announce she hasn't had even an inkling of a seizure since the end of August. Her mood is so lifted and carefree now, so have a hard time believing it is even the same kid. So I thank all of you for your prayers and well-wishes concerning her neurological health. We had an appointment with Dr.Rotenburg on Wednesday...well actually the nurse practitioner. She let us know that US neurologists like to see a child seizure-free for 2 years before they begin weaning medications; so it looks like another year and a half of meds for my little one. We can't be sure if her condition has fixed itself, or if the medication is just working really well. After that 2 year period, he'll begin taking away medications slowly and then he'll perform another EEG to read her brain waves, making sure all seizure activity has subsided.

It occurred to me last week that I have not seen the Vice-Principal at all this year. Last year when this all began, I could tell you what she was wearing at least once a week (by the way, one of the gaudiest woman on EARTH! ~love her!). I realized the only parent-teacher conferences I've had were when her teacher came to Leahness' birthday party and a few teleconferences and a few subtle emails. There haven't been any causes for face-to-face conferences, no tear trails, no threats of special education, etc. I guess it can be easy to take the good and easy times for granted.

So I continue to be amazed at her behavioural transformation. She has grown into a young lady what feels like overnight. I can't reiterate enough how much all of your prayers mean to me.

Happy New Year to all of you out there, near and far. We love you all so, so much and can't wait to see what is in store for 2009 for all of us.
