Genuinely Amazing Cat

I haven't been posting anything because life has been on an even kilter for a couple of months. That's not to say we haven't had our share of challenges, who would I be kidding? But for the most part, it's been pretty quiet. Nothing to report...hmmmm...calm before the storm?

One interesting thing to report is something very odd going on with our cat Tamerin. **Yes, named after the tiny monkey found in Costa Rica.** She comes right up to Leahness directly before a seizure. She'll rub around her and even sit on top of her right before a seizure. She sits on her other times too, but since Leahness has the type of seizures that are most times internal (seizures inside her brain you can't often see), I'm wondering if Tamerin is detecting those as well. This is a pretty new occurence. When Leahness came home from the hospital all those years ago, Tamerin sniffed at her and never gave her another moment's notice. Sure there were those defient moments of urinating on our bed to get the point accross that she is quite unhappy about the new "pet". But that was it. She never again so much as looked at Leahness. Now, she is her best friend. We both became a bit puzzled. Until one morning Tamerin was brushing herself all around Leahness's feet while I was brushing her hair. I looked down at Leahness's face and she was seizing. It was a long seizure; she just wouldn't come out of her trance. I looked at Tamerin who was sitting by her now. I looked down at that very vocal cat and she was looking up at me and with all her might mewed right at me. I had heard about animals being able to detect seizures and some are trained to alert caregivers of oncoming seizures.

This is amazing!

I started to notice that whenever Leahness began her seizure, Tamerin was looking at me or brushing up against Leahness. She even went so far as to jump up on the table one morning when she was having her breakfast. A moment or two later, Leahness had fallen in her trance. Now, this jumping up on anything in the kitchen is NOT permitted under any circumstance, but this one time, I understood. By this time I was on to Tamerin's little 6th kitty sense and had accepted she was just trying to help in her own little way. I was never a cat person because we got Tamerin, but she has proved to me cats are just as special as dogs. She's an older cat now, she'll be 11 in June. Chris bought her for me, when she was a kitten, as an engagement gift. It's hard to see her getting old. She is losing some of her vision, so I'm only guessing her other senses are stronger.

Well, that's my quack-job of an entry. LOL! I do think there's some truth in it though. Tamerin is a sweet cat. All cats carry around a sort of wisdom in their presence, Tamerin is no exception. I'm thankful for her wisdom.
